The Muppets-2011

The Muppets are are back but are they better than ever?

Yes and no.  They are back and seem just as relevant today as they did in 1978.  I love how they harken back to the show with the old sets and old musical numbers.  They new music is very catchy and all the voices seem perfect without the talents  of Jim Henson or Frank Oz.  While there is certainly the zaniness that The Muppets are known for, I felt as if there wasn’t enough of it.  While I think that is good for critics (currently 98% on rottentomatoes.com), Its not quite so good for a wide and general audience.

Most of the film centers on getting the old gang back together again to try and save their old theater from an Oil Tycoon.  Sounds simple enough and it is.  The old magic was there but I didn’t feel like it was there in full force.  So I definitely recommend The Muppets.  Its a good trip down memory lane if you remember them from when you were a kid, but for the new generation of today there will only be mild amusement.
